Bedford, MA – September 12, 2006 –Project.net, the leading provider of commercial open source project and portfolio management applications (PPM), today announced the integration of its web-based enterprise PPM application with Oracle Database 10g Express Edition, the free version of Oracle’s database solution. As a result, Project.net will be able to support up to 300 users with the free database, making its PPM solution the most powerful, flexible and low-cost open source offering of its kind.
Project.net also announced other technology and feature enhancements to its PPM solution, including a new capability for the cross-project linking of tasks, which provides project managers with a complete view of all project tasks, both within individual projects and across all projects in the portfolio.
“Oracle Express works flawlessly with Project.net’s PPM application,” said Giovanni Di Mingo, project manager for Envir, a web site design and e-commerce solutions provider based in Torino, Italy. “The other major benefits for Envir are the tremendous cost savings. We now have two powerful IT solutions that have already been tested and proven in enterprise environments, and at the lowest cost possible, which is an incredible advantage for small and medium-sized companies like Envir.”
“Oracle Express is a great match for providers of open source applications like Project.net,” said Monica Kumar, director of product marketing at Oracle. “Together with Project.net, Oracle is helping to control software costs for customers while providing high quality software and services.”
More than 50,000 users in Global 2000 companies currently rely on Project.net’s PPM solutions to improve project execution across the enterprise, resulting in dramatic time and cost savings for their organizations. Project.net’s open source initiative – the first of its kind based on a commercial PPM product –positions the company to capture a greater share of the growing PPM market. Project.net also aims to stimulate innovation and increase adoption of PPM applications by making its PPM offering more affordable, accessible, and customizable.
In April, Project.net announced the availability of the source code for its enterprise-class PPM product, and since that launch there have been tens-of-thousands of software downloads.
“Project.net is committed to advancing the state of PPM, and this is reflected in our move to bring top quality technology like Oracle Express to our users,” said Peter Winston, Project.net’s CEO. “In addition, Project.net’s new cross-project linking capability provides project managers with both horizontal and vertical views across individual and portfolio project tasks. Project.net is the only PPM tool that makes these rich features and capabilities available and affordable for the broader community of end-users and developers.”
